Staff Sergeant Delivers Manifesto on War: Great Stuff

I'm reposting this from Blackfive just to make sure four more people see it.

This note is from a Staff Sergeant currently in Afghanistan.

Things that I am tired of in this war:

I am tired of Democrats saying they are patriotic and then insulting my commander in chief and the way he goes about his job.

I am tired of Democrats who tell me they support me, the soldier on the ground, and then tell me the best plan to win this war is with a “phased redeployment” (liberal-speak for retreat) out of the combat zone to someplace like Okinawa.

I am tired of the Democrats whining for months on T.V., in the New York Times, and in the House and Senate that we need more troops to win the war in Iraq, and then when my Commander in Chief plans to do just that, they say that is the wrong plan, it won’t work, and we need a “new direction.”

I am tired of every Battalion Sergeant Major and Command Sergeant Major I see over here being more concerned about whether or not I am wearing my uniform in the “spot on,” most garrison-like manner; instead of asking me whether or not I am getting the equipment I need to win the fight, the support I need from my chain of command, or if the chow tastes good.

I am tired of junior and senior officers continually doubting the technical expertise of junior enlisted soldiers who are trained far better to do the jobs they are trained for than these officers believe.

I am tired of senior officers and commanders who fight this war with more of an eye on the media than on the enemy, who desperately needs killing.

I am tired of the decisions of Sergeants and Privates made in the heat of battle being scrutinized by lawyers who were not there and will never really know the state of mind of the young soldiers who were there and what is asked of them in order to survive.

I am tired of CNN claiming that they are showing “news,” with videotape sent to them by terrorists, of my comrades being shot at by snipers, but refusing to show what happens when we build a school, pave a road, hand out food and water to children, or open a water treatment plant.

I am tired of following the enemy with drones that have cameras, and then dropping bombs that sometimes kill civilians; because we could do a better job of killing the right people by sending a man with a high powered rifle instead.

I am tired of the thousands of people in the rear who claim that they are working hard to support me when I see them with their mochas and their PX Bags walking down the street, in the middle of the day, nowhere near their workspaces.

I am tired of Code Pink, Daily Kos, Al-Jazzera, CNN, Reuters, the Associated Press, ABC, NBC, CBS, the ACLU, and CAIR thinking that they somehow get to have a vote in how we blast, shoot and kill these animals who would seek to subdue us and destroy us.

I am tired of people like Meredith Vieria from NBC asking oxygen thieves like Senator Chuck Hagel questions like “Senator, at this point, do you think we are fighting and dying for nothing?” Meredith might not get it, but soldiers do know the difference between fighting and dying for something and fighting and dying for nothing.

I am tired of hearing multiple stories from both combat theaters about snipers begging to do their jobs while commanders worry about how the media might portray the possible casualties and what might happen to their career.

I am tired of hearing that the Battalion Tactical Operations Center got a new plasma screen monitor for daily briefings, but rifle scope rings for sniper rifles, extra magazines, and necessary field gear were disapproved by the unit supply system.

I am tired of out of touch general officers, senators, congressmen and defense officials who think that giving me some more heavy body armor to wear is helping me stay alive. Speed is life in combat and wearing 55 to 90 pounds of gear for 12 to 20 hours a day puts me at a great tactical disadvantage to the idiot, mindless terrorist who is wearing no armor at all and carrying an AK-47 and a pistol.

I am tired of soldiers who are stationed in places like Kuwait and who are well away from any actual combat getting Hostile Fire/Imminent Danger Pay and the Combat Zone Tax Exclusion when they live on a base that has a McDonald’s, a Pizza Hut, a Subway, a Baskin Robbins, an internet café, 2 coffee shops and street lights.

I am tired of senior officers and commanders who take it out and "measure" every time they want to have a piece of the action with their helicopters or their artillery; instead of putting their egos aside and using their equipment to support the grunt on the ground.

I am tired of senior officers and commanders who are too afraid for their careers to tell the truth about what they need to win this war to their bosses so that the soldiers can get on with kicking the a ss of these animals.

I am tired of Rules of Engagement being made by JAG lawyers and not Combat Commanders. We are not playing Hopscotch over here. There is no 2nd place trophy either. I think that if the enemy knew some rough treatment and some deprivation was at hand for them, instead of prayer rugs, special diets and free Korans; this might help get their terrorist minds “right.”

I am tired of seeing Active Duty Army and Marine units being extended past their original redeployment dates, when there are National Guard Units that have yet to deploy to a combat zone in the last 40 years.

I am tired of hearing soldiers who are stationed in safe places talk about how hard their life is.

I am tired of seeing Infantry Soldiers conducting what amounts to “SWAT” raids and performing the US Army’s version of “CSI Iraq” and doing things like filling out forms for evidence when they could be better used to hunt and kill the enemy.

I am tired of senior officers and commanders who look first in their planning for how many casualties we might take, instead of how many enemy casualties we might inflict.

I am tired of begging to be turned loose so that this war can be over.

Those of us who fight this war want to win it and go home to their families. Prolonging it with attempts to do things like collect “evidence” or present whiz bang briefings on a new plasma screen TV is wasteful and ultimately, dulls the edge of our Infantry soldiers who are trained to kill people and break things, not necessarily in that order.

We are not in Iraq and Afghanistan to build nations. We are there to kill our enemies. We make the work of the State Department easier by the results we achieve.

It is only possible to defeat an enemy who kills indiscriminately by utterly destroying him. He cannot be made to yield or surrender. He will fight to the death by the hundreds to kill only one or two of us.

And so far, all of our “games” have been “away games,” and I don’t know about the ignorant, treasonous Democrats and the completely insane radical leftists and their thoughts on the matter, but I would like to keep our road game schedule.

So let’s get it done. Until the fight is won and there is no more fight left.

-D

Mike Vick finds a new way

Water bottles no longer needed.  Just get your p*mp on.  (and pumps)

BEIJING, Jan 24 (Reuters Life!) - It gives a whole new meaning to high heels.

Customs officers in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou have discovered 28 kg (60 lb) of marijuana leaves hidden in 215 pairs of shoes abandoned at the airport last year, Xinhua news agency said on Wednesday.

The marijuana was found in five suitcases and a nylon bag that arrived in Guangzhou from Addis Ababa on August 6, 2006, but were never declared at Customs and only opened two weeks ago.

"When they opened the packages on January 11, officials found the shipment contained 215 pairs of platform shoes, whose soles had been hollowed out and stuffed with marijuana leaves," Xinhua said.

A spokesman with Guangzhou customs said the city had cracked 85 drug trafficking cases and seized 144 kg of drugs since it tightened scrutiny at major checkpoints last September.

((Why is p----i----m----p an unacceptable word at townhall??))

Memorize the Koran or go to Jail

At least its not War and Peace or Moby Dick (or Dicky Moe in a bugs bunny flash back), but is it possible for a human(drug user) to memorize 77,000 words and repeat them back verbatim?  Can we also consider the education of Saudi's, I mean that don't really lead the planet in smarts.  Then again, I went to school for 20 years and this is what I choose to write about.

RIYADH (Reuters) - A Saudi court has ordered a drug user to spend six months memorizing the Koran, but he faces a year in prison if he fails to recite the Muslim holy book by heart, a newspaper said Tuesday.

The "alternative sentence" saves the Saudi man from Jeddah from a six-month jail term, al-Watan said. But that sentence will be doubled if his Koranic recitation classes fail to make him a "hafez," someone who knows the Koran by heart.

There are more than 77,000 words in the Koran. It takes on average two years to study.

Saudi Arabia's religious courts apply strict Islamic sharia law. But it is largely uncodified and judges have wide discretion when it comes to sentencing.

A Man's Diaper Bag

Is $175 to pricey for a man's diaper bag.  Will the $175 eliminate the embarrassment of having a child and therefor the stigma of a fluffy bunny diaper bag?  Do men give a <bleep>.

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- A U.S. handbag manufacturer is trying to make changing diapers a bit more macho -- with a baby bag made from truck and tractor tire inner tubes.

Richmond, Virginia, based Passchal has designed a "Dad's baby bag" made from recycled inner tubes, trimmed with hemp, and fitted with a battery operated light to help locate that soother somewhere at the bottom of the bag.

Designer Angela Greene said the inspiration for the bag came after a female client asked if she could make a baby bag for her husband to use.

"As I was designing it, I thought that the buckles, grommets, rivets gave it a Harley look," she told Reuters.

Scotts' not equiped for battle: Kilt Shortage

No plaids for the lads: Scottish soldiers forced to share kilts for now

LONDON (AP) — Great Scot! A shortage of ceremonial kilts could leave thousands of soldiers without a stitch of plaid to wear as they parade to the skirl of the bagpipes.

Military officials said Monday that more than 5,000 Scottish soldiers are having to share their kilts because defense chiefs have not finalized a contract to buy enough of the garments to go around.

"A planned deployment of kilts will be agreed with the Royal Regiment of Scotland on a roll-out basis with ... the full program being completed by January 2008," a Ministry of Defense spokesman said, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with government policy.

You would think some of those Afgans (people and blankets) could somehow equip them.

...full contract is worth up to $1.95 million, taking two years to complete and will involve 15,000 yards of fabric.

Give it to the Afgans.

Or this guy, but can it really take two years to make a couple thousand kilts?

UK Crackdown on Undeserving Poor

Just in time for the holiday season:

Here is a Christmas message from the Department for Work and Pensions: there will be a harsh crackdown on lazy, feckless, work-shy scroungers and all other undeserving poor. All who Can-Work-But-Won't-Work will feel the lash of John Hutton, as he announces a tough review of benefits to be published soon. 'Tis indeed the season to be jolly.

Sounds straight forward to me, but how dare he ask those who can, to work.  The socialist writting the article goes on to say this:

Look closer at housing and see the damage done by gross inequality, as wealth at the top stamps on those below. London has the highest unemployment, with half its children born poor. Yet it is also the richest place.

I am always amazed how rich people get richer off people with no money.  It's an absolute miracle.  If anything, state run lottery is the true tax on the poor.  Promise them millions and write the odds in small print.

A Cure for my Butt/Face Issues

Problem:

I never use the same towel two days in a row.  It's a real problem for my detergent bill.  I may have found the solution, although left over dirt is still dirt no matter where its from.

Solution:

Yup...never wipe your butt and face on the same part of the towel again.  Anything is worth a try to limit my income to Tide.

Drink and Drive:It Could Save Your Life

Alcohol may help brain recover from head trauma

Sure your more likely to get the head trauma, but you might want to be prepared.

"Low concentrations of alcohol may have the ability to reduce secondary brain injury and may therefore improve brain injury survival," Dr. Homer Tien, a trauma surgeon at Toronto's Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, said in a press release.

"However, the study only describes the effect of alcohol on the brain after injury occurs and I'd like to stress that alcohol remains the leading cause of preventable trauma deaths and dramatically increases the likelihood of injury and fatal injury."

In fact, researchers said that up to half of all trauma patients are intoxicated before suffering their injuries.  "I'm a trauma surgeon, so I don't want people to drink and drive," Tien told CTV News.

Sure Doc, we got it.  Just get a good buzz going just to be safe and one eye it home.

Pot Growth High in USA

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. growers produce nearly $35 billion worth of marijuana annually, making the illegal drug the country's largest cash crop, bigger than corn and wheat combined, an advocate of medical marijuana use said in a study released on Monday.

The report, conducted by Jon Gettman, a public policy analyst and former head of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, also concluded that five U.S. states produce more than $1 billion worth of marijuana apiece: California, Tennessee, Kentucky, Hawaii and Washington.

California's production alone was about $13.8 billion, according to Gettman, who waged an unsuccessful six-year legal battle to force the government to remove marijuana from a list of drugs deemed to have no medical value.

With pot being such a large part of the economy, I don't see how fighting it would do any good.  We should just resign ourselves to an amnesty plan that allows the sale at our local gas stations.  Tax it, regulate it, and then stop all future production of the drug.  The drug is already here.  Let's keep what we have and stop the rest.

A clean slate should solve the problem.

Bend it like Playstation?

Video Gaming killed the Soccer Star

Foreign players, video games and a lack of coaching are behind the current shortage of young talent in British soccer, national managers agreed on Tuesday.

"When we all grew up, we didn't have Playstation, or PS2 or 24-hour TV....so we played football (soccer). If my son played football (soccer) as much as he does with his Playstation, he'd be a better player it 's a fact of life."

Pointing to Brazil's longstanding success in the World Cup, he said: "They have 180 million people, it's their religion and you can find 11 decent players out of that 180 million. It's their passion.

The managers predicted that either poor countries or those with better parenting skills would be world cup powerhouses in the future.  Even better, there's a PS3 ad next to the Yahoo story.

Keep Buying Fur!

And we will continue to get this:

Photo

Two women went nude but for Santa hats and a protest banner as part of international action by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) against Burberry over the use of animal fur in its creations.

I applaud Peta for the relief from the normal fat and old hippies usually seen naked at protests.

Rhino Birth Control Wheel

Blind(s) and curtain salespeople may want to take a look at this:

German animal rights activists have launched a campaign against plans to put up a giant ferris wheel in Berlin, saying it would disturb the sex lives of rhinos in a nearby zoo.

A group of investors has unveiled plans to erect a 175-meter high wheel for 120 million euros ($158.9 million) in the German capital, hoping to attract millions of visitors from 2008.

But animal rights activists oppose the project, saying the fully-illuminated wheel would disturb the rhinos' daily routine.

"We're worried that these endangered animals won't breed any more, which would hamper animal protection programs," Berlin's animal rights association said in a statement.

My only question is how do they know.  What deep secrets do these people hold about Rhinos?  Maybe that's two questions.

Update:  John McCain called a press conference to comment, but cancelled after learning there was an "
H" in the spelling.

Save The Pigeons

To be filed under, Don't You Have Anything Better To Do:

For generations, Trafalgar Square's pigeons were fed by tourists from around the world who bought grain from a licensed seller of pigeon food who was located on the Square. In autumn 2000, however, all that changed when Mayor Ken Livingstone declared war on the pigeons, describing them as "rats with wings" and pledging to rid the Square of its most famous attraction.

He ordered the Greater London Authority (GLA) to withdraw the license from feed seller Bernie Rayner, whose family had sold food on the Square for 50 years. An estimated 4,000-strong flock faced the immediate prospect of death by starvation.

Within days, concerned groups and individuals came together to form the Pigeon Alliance (since renamed Save the Trafalgar Square Pigeons – STTSP). We immediately began to feed the birds 150kg of corn each day and, ever since, we have intervened whenever and however necessary to protect the birds; see the background page for details.

A future rally was planned where participants would assemble in the square to make feces angels as a sign of protest against the government and support for the rats, er, birds.

Save The Trafalgar Square PigeonsMay the bird flu be with you, and also with you.

Cows Compromise on World Domination

During the last post (When Cows Attack!) we discussed the cow's desire to destroy the earth's environment and graze the world.  In a stunning twist or perhaps just appeasement after the last hard hitting article, the Cows have compromised.

Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and Microgy, Inc. announced an agreement for the purchase, for an 18-month period, of all Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) generated from Microgy's Huckabay Ridge facility in Stephenville, Texas.

Once operational, the facility owned by Microgy, a subsidiary of Environmental Power Corporation, will generate up to 2 million cubic feet of RNG per day from cow manure and other agricultural wastes for use in any of LCRA's three natural gas-fired power plants. The facility is expected to be generating gas at full capacity by the end of the first quarter of 2007.

With an expected commercial production of 650,000 mmBTUs of natural gas per year, Huckabay Ridge will be generating the equivalent of 12,700 gallons of heating oil per day from the manure of approximately 10,000 cows at the 8-digester site. The biogas produced at the facility will be treated to commercial natural gas standards, compressed and transported via pipeline to LCRA power plants.

This compromise has been accepted by all parties, but questions remain about the previously reported gas attack on the earth.  Dan Kuehn, AKA "Spotty," was quoted saying, "This purchase agreement with Microgy demonstrates our commitment to providing clean, renewable energy to the people of Texas."   Our watchful eyes will continue to follow these deceptive creatures despite this carrot.
